TVEDC annual meeting caps busy year

Team Volusia’s annual meeting, customarily an evening affair, was conducted as a morning meeting in March, with more than 170 in actual or virtual attendance. This year’s annual meeting was held at the Center at Deltona and catered by Joe Hearn Events.

The meeting, sponsored by Duke Energy (represented by Economic Development Manager Elizabeth Godwin) and Florida Power and Light (represented by Regional Manager/External Affairs Linda Webster-Dubea), featured an insightful presentation by economic development authority and author Quint Studer whose observations were tailored to Volusia’s unique economic advantages and attributes.  He also shared numerous examples of economic strategies that have elevated the profile of Pensacola and made it a much more competitive city.

We saluted the previous slate of officers, including Dr. Charles Duva, who led TVEDC as Chairman for two years. In his first report as Immediate Past Chair, Dr, Duva thanked his colleagues on the executive committee. He complemented the staff on a highly productive year under ever-changing circumstances. He reminded the audience that TVEDC had received the J. Hyatt Brown Enterprise Award from the Daytona Regional Chamber. He offered a recap of completed and pending projects. And he wished his successor chairman, Jordan Jiloty and the Executive Committee well.

For Jordan’s part, he recognized Dr. Duva’s extraordinary service as Chair and – with Keith Norden – presented Dr. Duva with a memento of his successful tenure at the reins of TVEDC. He cited many of the essential economic development forums and events in which TVEDC will participate this year.  He cited continued collaboration with the area’s economic development practitioners and partners. And he welcomed his newly seated Executive Committee:

County Manager George Recktenwald representing Volusia County Government;

Immediate Past Chairman Dr. Charles Duva

Legal Counsel John Ferguson of Cobb Cole Law Firm

Treasurer John Olivari of Olivari & Associates CPAs and Consultants

Secretary Joyce Shanahan of the City of Ormond Beach

Vice Chair Phil Maroney of the Root Company

Other highlights of the meeting included welcoming Sarah Roick and Jay Smith of Ajax Company as new TVEDC investors. Also welcomed were new designees of TVEDC investors including Volusia County Chair Jeff Brower, Council on Aging Co-Executive Director Eveline Kraljic, and Celine Pelofi of First Auto Tag Agency.

In closing, TVEDC President and CEO Keith Norden thanked Troy Olson of FitUSA, a veteran-owned Volusia County small business which was contracted to create the official TVEDC masks, which were distributed to all in attendance.
