A Year in Review: Economic Development in the Greater Daytona Region

As one year ends and a new one begins, it is the perfect time to reflect on the economic achievements, events and booming construction that characterized the Greater Daytona Region in 2018. Read on to see some of the biggest highlights as we prepare for the months to come.

Expanding industries

Throughout 2018, we saw the expansion of nationally and internationally renowned companies to the Greater Daytona Region. These expanding industries included manufacturers, such as B. Braun, the medical device company, and Boston Whaler, the beloved boat company; labs, notably DaVita Labs in DeLand which comes with 400 jobs; and even dining locations, thanks to the addition of multi-use centers and ambitious projects like Daytona One. With each new project comes a bevy of new jobs, as well as the strengthening of the Greater Daytona Region’s reputation as an economic hub that can foster growth of all sorts.

National accolades

In 2018, Daytona Beach was named the number-seven best place to move to in America by U.S. News & World Report. This achievement was based on a variety of factors, including transportation access, a unique demographic reach, diversity of activities and industries and much more.

Academic achievements

In 2018, the Greater Daytona Region continued to achieve academic excellence across all realms. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Daytona graduated its largest fall class ever in December, sending a record number of skilled graduates into the workforce.

Meanwhile, throughout the 2017-2018 school year, Volusia County school programs (public and private, ranging from high schools to colleges and universities) issued 1,260 education completions in digital technology, 1,241 in business and economics, 1,107 in engineering, science and math, 948 in community service & support, and 285 in production & maintenance.
