Get to Know the Farnborough International Airshow: The Greater Daytona Region's Connection to a Global Industry

Stunts, flight schools, amazing air displays—England’s Farnborough International Airshow promises a thrilling adventure for all. But amidst all the high-flying action, there’s a Volusia County connection that helps bring projects back to the Greater Daytona Region.

Read on to learn more, as Team Volusia prepares to travel to Farnborough for this exciting business networking event.

Inside Farnborough

Farnborough, Hampshire is a UK destination known, in particular, for its embrace of aviation. The Farnborough Aerodrome is an airport steeped in aerospace history, as is the Royal Aircraft Establishment, which served as a top aerospace research institution for most of the 20th century. While each of these serves practical purposes, of course, the Farnborough International Airshow serves a dual role—as both a trade showcase for aviation technology, as well as a top destination for visitors to marvel at high-flying feats, demonstrations and other opportunities for family fun.

A slice of Volusia County

If any of Farnborough rings familiar, it might be because the Greater Daytona Region is home to its own aviation haven of sorts. Here, one can find an equally active aviation scene, characterized by events (such as the DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase), ample transportation opportunities in the county’s six airports, and a focus on aerospace innovation and employment, as embodied at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a foremost leader in the field.

Knowing where to network

The Greater Daytona Region’s embrace of aviation makes it a natural spot for aerospace companies to expand—which, in turn, makes the Farnborough International Airshow a top destination for networking. As part of Team Volusia’s outreach schedule, our stop at the Airshow will let our team connect the local community with the global field of aviation and the economic opportunities it presents. This year, we will be joining Florida Power & Light in their Powering Florida exhibit area inside the Florida pavilion. From this event come leads with the goal of them taking a firsthand look at all the development opportunities in the Greater Daytona Region.

The Farnborough International Airshow begins on July 21st, but it’s not the only way to see the aviation industry in action. Much like Farnborough, the Greater Daytona Region community is known for its penchant for aviation—as evidenced by everything from thrilling air attractions to annual showcases and institutions that embrace aerospace education.
